Clients present as their full selves in coaching. The ICF indicates that clients functioning well in their activities of daily living (ADLs) are good candidates for coaching. However, mental health fluctuates due to many reasons, such as unexpected personal and professional life events. Coaches need to be mindful to stay within their coaching scope of practice while also meeting clients where they are in the realities of their lives, to support them in exploring the healthiest course of action regarding their mental health needs.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Describing signs of mental health needs in clients.
- Identifying relevant areas of the ICF ethics code.
- Sharing mental health resources with clients.
- Engaging clients in conversations regarding current mental health supports.
